We speak of a
first class leverrwhen the fulcrum is between the load and the point of application of muscle force. In scoliosis the load is located at the level of the line of gravity, the fulcrum is constituted by the apical vertebra and the point of application of the muscular forces on the transverse convex process.
The further the fulcrum moves away from the line of gravity, the greater the convex muscular force will be to keep the spine in balance.
